Can I visit the national office?
If you wish to visit the national office, we request that you first make an appointment. Please note we do not have a bookstore you can walk in and browse through. For a list of ASTA publications available for sale, please visit the Alfred Music website here.

When is the office open?
Regular business hours for the national office are Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. EST/EDT. We will post messages to our voice mail system when the office is closed.

Membership

Does ASTA offer health/life insurance?

Does ASTA offer instrument insurance?
Members enjoy a special discounted rate on instrument insurance through Huntington T. Block. Your membership must stay current in order to enjoy these valuable savings. Call 202-862-5346 or 855-219-3189 for more information.

I lost my membership ID card. How do I get a replacement?
You can now visit the My Account section of the website (be sure you are logged in) to access your membership information on demand. You can request a replacement ID card by contacting us at membership@astaweb.com or 703-279-2113

How do I change my address?
You may change your address and other personal information on the ASTA website in the My Account section. You must log in first, then you will find 'My Account' in the upper right corner of the website. Or you may contact the Membership Department at membership@astaweb.com or 703-279-2113.

I don't like getting promotional material, but I do want the AST journal. How do I make that happen?
To have your information removed from mailings by companies and individuals promoting products and services other than official ASTA business, please send an email request to asta@astaweb.com and request that your name be removed from mailing label/list requests. If you really only want the journal and NOTHING else (i.e., chapter newsletters, official voting ballots, etc.), please indicate this in your message.

I want to be listed in the Studio Teacher Search, but not in other member directories. Is this possible?
At this time we don't have the ability to allow you to pick and choose which directories in which to be included. However, being listed in the Studio Teacher Search does not affect your choice to be included or excluded from mailing label/list requests.

Publications

How do I order an ASTA publication?
We publish many string-related publications through our partner, Alfred Music. You may purchase them here.

If I want to publish my book with ASTA, how do I do that?
ASTA is currently not accepting new submissions for publication.

If I want ASTA to sell my already published book/music/CD, how do I do that?
Sorry, ASTA is currently not accepting new publications for distribution.

Finances

How do I open my treasurer's report/why can't I open it?
The treasurer’s report is a Microsoft Office Excel spreadsheet. To open the report you’ll need to have Excel installed on your computer.

Why haven't I received my state chapter rebate check?
The state rebate checks are mailed quarterly to the state chapter president. Receipt of the checks is contingent upon the national office receiving several reports from the state chapter. The state chapter did not receive a check because one or more of the reports have not been received by the national office.

What do I need to do/submit to get my rebate check?
Each chapter must have Bylaws and an ASTA Affiliation agreement on file at the national office. In addition, the state chapter treasurer’s report must be submitted semi-annually along with an annual roster of chapter officers. The treasurer’s reports are due February 15 and August 15 for the six months ended December 31 and June 30, respectively.

National Conference

  1. How do I register for the conference?
    The ASTA 2017 National Conference is March 1-4 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. There are four ways to register: 1) Online registration is easy and secure; 2) You may mail in your registration form and pay by check, Visa, Master Card, or American Express; 3) You may fax your registration form to 703-279-2114; 4) You may also call 703-279-2113 ext. 14 to register.

National Orchestra Festival™

  1. What's the difference between conference master classes and National Orchestra Festival (NOF) master classes?
    Conference master classes are open only to those who register as a conference attendee. NOF master classes are only open to groups participating in the National Orchestra Festival. Conference attendees may not attend NOF master classes and NOF participants may not attend conference master classes.

    The "Why Strings?" brochure is available at no cost via download. Download your copy today. You may make your own copies of this document for your recruitment activities.

AST Journal

  1. How to I get my article in the journal?
    All article ideas/inquiries should be directed to asta@astaweb.com. Completed articles for consideration should be sent as an attachment to the email message; MS Word format is preferred. Submission of an article does not guarantee its publication in AST.
  2. I haven't received my journal. What do I do?
    Contact the national office at 703-279-2113, ext. 12, or send an email message to ssimolunas@astaweb.com that includes your name, ASTA ID number, current mailing address, and the issue(s) that you didn’t receive. A replacement copy will be mailed at no cost to you.
  3. Can I request copies of past issues?
    Yes, depending on availability, back issues of the journal may be purchased for $15, which includes shipping and handling. Nonmembers: $25. To order a back issue, please email Claire Morrell.
  4. Whom do I contact to advertise in the journal?
    The advertising representative for American String Teacher is Steve Wafalosky of LaRich & Associates. Steve can be reached at 440-247-1060 or stevew@larichadv.com. He can provide prospective advertisers with sample copies and all ad rates and dimensions.
  5. To whom do I submit ad artwork?
    It is best to upload advertising artwork directly to FilesAnywhere.com. The user ID is ASTA and the password is 1234. PDF files are preferred. Artwork also can be submitted via email to Susan Simolunas at ssimolunas@astaweb.com.
  6. Where do I send materials to be reviewed in the AST?
    To be eligible for a product review, publishers must be a member of the ASTA String Industry Council. ASTA currently only reviews music and books, not CDs or DVDs. To submit products for review, please send to ASTA, Attn: Reviews Editor, 4155 Chain Bridge Road, Fairfax, VA 22030.
